Eligibility
You must affirm you are age 18 or older and attend an accredited, degree-granting two-year or four-year institution as a full-time student, and verify academic status through your institution's email address. One subscription per eligible customer, non-transferable, and not combinable with other offers. Microsoft states activations are in limited supply and the offer runs only while supplies last.
Current conditions
For eligible full-time students aged 18 or older; academic verification is required.
Renewal requires continuing student eligibility; the $100 is not a monthly allowance.
$100 in Azure credits "to be used within the first 12 months", usable on most Azure products including Azure OpenAI. The subscription also carries Azure's free-service allowances: free monthly amounts of 20+ popular services for 12 months (new Azure customers only) and free monthly amounts of 65+ always-free services. Microsoft Learn states you "can renew each year that you're an active student to get an additional $100". Unused credit does not carry over between months and cannot be moved to another subscription; if the credit is exhausted the subscription is disabled until you upgrade to Pay-As-You-Go.
How to claim it
Go to azure.microsoft.com/free/students and sign in with your institution's email address
Verify your academic status (institution email, and affirm you are 18+ and a full-time student)
The $100 credit is applied to the new subscription — no credit card is requested
Renew each year by signing up for the offer again on the Azure for Students website (Microsoft emails a reminder before your anniversary) while you remain an active student
Verification history and earlier terms
This dated editorial record includes superseded conditions. Use the current facts
above for eligibility and access.
Verified 2026-09-19 against the offer-terms page (ms-azr-0170p), azure.microsoft.com/free/students and Microsoft Learn's Education Hub doc; every figure below is verbatim from one of those three Microsoft-owned pages, all of which rendered server-side. Amount and window: "Azure for Students gets you started with $100 in Azure credits to be used within the first 12 months, plus select free services as described below (services subject to change) without requiring a credit card at sign-up." CARD REQUIREMENT IS VERBATIM, NOT DEDUCED (the V26 lesson): the terms page's Payment Options section states "A credit card is not required for the Azure for Students offer." Eligibility verbatim: "You must affirm that you are age 18 or older and attend an accredited, degree-granting two-year or four-year educational institution where you're a full-time student. You must verify your academic status through your organization's email address." Renewal per Microsoft Learn: "This credit is valid for one year. You can renew each year that you're an active student to get an additional $100." OVERLAP, STATED PLAINLY: this is the same $100 Azure credit that the GitHub Student Developer Pack bundles (see github-student-pack-ai-offers) — it is a second, GitHub-independent claim route with its own eligibility wording, not a second $100. Do not present the two as $200 of value. Microsoft also still runs a separate credit-free "Azure for Students Starter" offer (ms-azr-0144p, age 13+/16+) which carries no credit and is deliberately not listed. Microsoft caveats that services are "subject to change" and that activations are limited, so this record needs the normal sweep cadence. NOT SOURCED: no page states which Azure OpenAI models the credit may be spent on, so no model-level claim is made here. Re-verified 2026-10-10: unchanged. Terms page (azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/offers/ms-azr-0170p/): 'Azure for Students gets you started with $100 in Azure credits to be used within the first 12 months, plus select free services as described below (services subject to change) without requiring a credit card at sign-up.' Payment Options, still verbatim: 'A credit card is not required for the Azure for Students offer.' Eligibility is unchanged verbatim ('age 18 or older ... accredited, degree-granting two-year or four-year educational institution where you’re a full-time student'). Learn 'About Azure for Students' (updated 2026-08-03): 'This credit is valid for one year. You can renew each year that you're an active student to get an additional $100.' Renewal mechanism corrected: per the Education Hub FAQ, 'To renew, sign up for the offer on the Azure for Students website', not via the Education Hub. Azure OpenAI access is quotable from azure.microsoft.com/free/students: 'Gain access to industry-leading technology like Azure OpenAI along with extensive resources curated for student developers to accelerate your learning.' Microsoft's Azure OpenAI quotas page lists batch quota as N/A for 'Azure for Students, free trials', so no batch deployments; still no model-level claim. Note: a Microsoft account used for Azure for Students is ineligible for Microsoft for Startups (Learn startups FAQ). Re-verified 2026-10-21 in the audit-remediation source sweep: current primary offer page and the material eligibility, validity, unit and payment evidence recorded in SOURCE-VERIFICATION.csv. Historical notes above are retained as history, not current terms. No account was created and no claim was submitted.
